The J&J/Ethicon Ethilon Nylon Sutures are a non-absorbable, sterile, monofilament suture designed for general soft tissue approximation and ligation. As a leading product from Ethicon, this suture is a versatile and reliable choice for a wide range of surgical procedures where long-term wound support is needed.

It is truly the best non-absorbable suture for skin closure and the best monofilament nylon suture for its strength and smooth passage through tissue. This specific product, with a 4-0 size and an 18-inch length, is a common choice for skin closure and other delicate procedures in dentistry, oral surgery, and other surgical specialties. The material, a long-chain aliphatic polymer known as Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6, is dyed black to enhance its visibility in tissue, making it easier for the surgeon to place and remove.

The monofilament design, consisting of a single strand, provides a smooth surface that glides through tissue with minimal drag and trauma, which is particularly beneficial for reducing the risk of infection. The suture is attached to a PS-2 reverse cutting needle, which is a 19mm, 3/8" circle needle designed for precise and controlled suturing. The reverse cutting point is beneficial for creating clean, sharp needle passes, especially through tough or dense tissue. Although non-absorbable, the suture gradually loses tensile strength over time (approximately 10-15% per year), so it is typically removed after 7-14 days depending on the wound location and healing progress.

The 1667G comes in a box of 12, ensuring a sterile supply for multiple procedures.
